The jacket summary "teaser", Book 1

Twilight’s Ashes” takes you to a world 630,000 years in the future where “it does not go well for men”. Humanity’s “Long Sojourn into Harmony and Balance” has finally come to fruition. Men have evolved a stable, patient disposition and comfortably settled into a sustainable pre-Newtonian (ca. 1680) low-tech culture, only to find a new ice age unsettling their peaceful coexistence with an intriguing mix of devolved post-human creatures and superior beings. Among them are the huge lumbering Yellow Ozyumps, whose invasion of a lost village begins the tale.

Surviving human enclaves are being crushed, one by one. But hope remains for men: it is pinned on the emergence of the long prophesied Seventh Shepherd (Micah 5:5): the Seventh Son of the Heavenly Host.

The greatest threat to humanity comes from “The Hoards of Ashur”—a species called the Irula or “Face Talkers”, descended from the Snake Catchers of today’s India, who are now the pinnacle of sapient evolution. Their very touch brings men a deadly contagious plague. But as the tale unfolds a derelict Irula has taken a young human under his wing, vowing to merge humanity’s hard-won Balance with the Irula promise of global Unity. These two endure a grueling and lonely quest across harsh lands and into an uncertain destiny on which hinges the very survival of homo sapiens.
